Presenting -Being in The Audience

This week in class was completely devoted to each student doing their presentation for the World War Two letter paper. After listening to and watching so many presentations, I think I’ve learned a lot more about presenting in general and what it means to have a good presentation.

In my opinion, one of the most important parts of a good presentation is the way it looks. The audience needs to have something to look at while listening to a presentation, not just for reference, but to keep them engaged. As a visual learner, it’s especially important for me to be able to see and read what I’m listening to in order for me to completely understand what the presenter is trying to say. Furthermore, it’s hard to stay focused when a presenter is just talking at you. With visuals, it’s easier to stay engaged and comprehend the main idea.

Beyond visuals, it’s important for the presenter to keep the audience engaged in other ways, like actually asking them to participate in the presentation. Someone who did this very well in our class was Ezra, when he asked the audience questions, seeing if they could relate to what he was saying.

There are many important aspects to a presentation, many of which I mentioned above. Having not yet presented yet, I hope to make use of the things I’ve observed from my classmate’s presentations, keeping mine concise, to the point, and engaging.
