To me, letter writing has always played an essential role in my life. In my room, I have a special box to keep important letters I’ve received. Some from my Father, my grandparents, past teachers, and old friends. I’ve always thought of letter writing as a special way of communicating- more intimate than texting, and more memorable than talking. In my mind, one of the best feelings is receiving a letter in the mail.
In this course, I am most excited about reading letters written during historical events. Letters hold historical value because they are frozen in a moment of time. I look forward to studying these letters and getting a glimpse into history through an individual’s point of view, rather than just reading about an event in a textbook.
I do not have many concerns about this course, the only one being technology and difficulty using the website we created. I’m slightly concerned that I won’t use the website correctly and therefore botch an assignment.
My Writing Process
I’ve always considered myself to be a strong writer, and I enjoy writing. Whether it be writing for a class assignment like essays and papers, or just writing poetry for myself, I take a lot of pride in the words I write and the process that gets me there.
Personally, my favorite part about my own writing process is brainstorming what to write about. This stage is when my creative side manifests and I am able to put ideas to paper. This stage takes place before I even begin to type, but is arguably the most important to writing a unique and thoughtful piece.
The main thing I would like to improve about my writing is making sure that when I write, every word is in the same ‘tense’. Sometimes, when writing a paper, I tend to alternate what tense I’m writing a sentence in (past, present, future, etc.). I would like to make sure my writing is always coherent and grammatically correct.
The main thing I’d like this class to do is help me grow as a writer. I’d like my writing to sound professional and efficient, and not like an amateur student. I’d like to clean up any small mistakes I make when writing to ensure I get my point across without the reader having to question the point I’m trying to make. Finally, I hope to become the best writer I can be and that this class teaches me useful skills I can apply when taking on any future writing endeavors.
